COVID-19 vaccinesCOVID-19 vaccines have been developed at breakneck speed and are playing an important role in saving lives during the pandemic. Various technologies are being used to manufacture vaccines that are safe and effective against the COVID-19 viral infection, especially against serious disease.
Dengue vaccineA dengue vaccine is available in some countries. It is used only in individuals from endemic areas within certain age groups who have suffered from a previous dengue infection. It reduces the chances of severe disease during a subsequent dengue infection.
Hepatitis vaccinesVaccines that prevent hepatitis A and hepatitis B infections are available alone and in combination. While hepatitis A is used in people at high risk, hepatitis B is routinely used in children and adults at high risk.
Herpes zoster vaccineThe herpes zoster vaccine is administered to adults over the ages of 50 or 60 years, depending on the type of vaccine.
HPV vaccineThe human papilloma virus (HPV) vaccine protects against cervical cancer in women and genital warts. It is administered to adolescents and young adults up to 26 years of age.
Influenza vaccineThe seasonal influenza vaccine is administered once a year with a formulation that is specially manufactured for the particular year. Depending on the formulation, it is administered as an injection or a nasal spray.
Pneumococcal vaccineThe pneumococcal vaccine is a vaccine used in children as well as in adults to prevent serious infections caused by pneumococci such as pneumonia and meningitis.
Tdap vaccineThe Tdap vaccine is a combination vaccine that protects against three diseases, tetanus, diphtheria and whooping cough. It is used in adolescents and adults, in contrast to the DTaP vaccine that is used on children.
Typhoid vaccineThe typhoid vaccine is available in an oral and an injectable form. It is usually recommended during outbreaks of typhoid.
Varicella vaccineThe varicella vaccine is used in children as well as in adults. Since it is a live attenuated vaccine, it must not be administered to people with low immunity.
